Project Lifesaver - "Bringing Loved Ones Home"

How Project Lifesaver Works:
The program relies on proven technology and a specially trained search & rescue team. Lifesaver clients wear a wristband that emits a silent tracking signal. When caregivers call 9-1-1 and report a loved one missing, a search & rescue team responds to the area and starts searching with state-of-the-art tracking equipment. Using this technology, search times have been reduced from hours and days to within minutes. In over 1,800 searches nationwide, there have been no reported serious injuries or deaths, and recoveries average less than 30 minutes.

Project Lifesaver in Crown Point:
Started in 2008 following the tragic death of an Alzheimer's patient who walked away from a care facility. Currently, all Crown Point Firefighters are trained as Electronic Search Specialists.

How Much Does Project Lifesaver Cost?
Thanks to a grant from St. Anthony Medical Center, the $300 transmitters are provided at no cost, and only $10 monthly maintenance fee.

How To Enroll In Project Lifesaver:
To enroll a loved one, or if you have a question about Project Lifesaver:

Fireplace Safety

If your home has a fireplace, special precautions can help to keep home fires burning safely: * Make sure the flue is open before lighting a fire.

*Never burn charcoal or use a hibachi in your fireplace. Both produce deadly carbon monoxide.

* Protect against sparks by enclosing a fireplace's opening with glass doors or a sturdy screen.

* Never close the flue while a fire is still smoldering. Carbon monoxide could build up.

* Never use gasoline, kerosene or lighter fluid to start a fire. Burn only dry, seasoned hardwood. For extra safety, light fires with long-stemmed matches.

* Have your fireplace and chimney inspected annually. They should be properly vented and free of blockages. Have cleaned as needed.

*Protect the top of your chimney with a guard that keeps out birds and small animals and keeps in sparks that could ignite your roof.

*Keep flammables such as newspapers, magazines, rugs and carpeting well away from the fireplace.

*Remove holiday decorations from the fireplace and mantle before building a fire to avoid having the decorations ignite.

*Teach children to stay back from the fireplace.

*Never leave a fire unattended.

*Keep a fire extinguisher handy.
